Some shed tears of joy, others reacted with gleeful applause, while many were enveloped in genuine joy when the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) gubernatorial candidate, Pastor Umo’s bus tour cruised through parts of Uyo, the state capital.
At each of the stops, a crowd of residents, which built organically, walked the streets with him for many minutes, a testament to his stamina and energy.
Also, his ability to connect with the ordinary citizen, striking up conversations with ease, endeared him to his audience.
In deed, some who were interacting with him for the first time were shocked at his humility, charming personality, and down-to-earth nature.
Little wonder that many of the residents have vowed to vote and canvass votes for him and the PDP come March 18th, 2022.
The bus tour which drove slowly through the city with stops at Timber Market, Mechanic Village, Akpan Andem Market, Itam Market and Ibom.Plaza caused quite a stir and many said they were happy that he is committed to sustaining the peace they have been enjoying in the past few years while promising to support their businesses.
In his speeches at every location, Pastor Eno showed clearly that he knows full well their pain points and has mapped out solutions that will provide the necessary succour.
At the Timber Market, Pastor Eno promised to fix water and sanitation systems to address the issue of lack of water and poor hygiene in the market.
His next stop was the Mechanic Village where he showed his fatherly nature by picking up a baby from the crowd and informing all present that he was inspired to run for governor just to provide a better life for that baby and her generation.
He then noted that he intends to improve the condition of the market by moving the facility to a more befitting location for the benefit of the artisans and their customers.
He also promised to provide a digital system for detecting faults in vehicles at the mechanic village, adding that he will so support them with the right tools that Government House vehicles would be maintained at the Village.
At Itam and Akpan Andem Markets, Pastor Eno promised to provide soft loans for the traders to further boost their businesses as well as fix Ndiya Street in Akpan Andem and other internal roads.
He stated that he was told not to walk through Ndiya Street because the road was bad and muddy, but he decided to take that route to see things for himself, and having seen first-hand its current state, he promised to fix it within his first 100 days in office.
Pastor Eno promised to remodel Ibom Plaza to be more attractive and fix the big screen there and make the Plaza a tourist attraction that will boost night life in the city.
While vowing to support ICT development in the state, the guber candidate promised to complete the science park, a project conceived by former governor Obong Victor Attah, and create an ICT hub, if he becomes governor.
Meanwhile, leadership at all locations visited pledged to vote for PDP, saying that the peace they have enjoyed in the state is courtesy of the party and Pastor Umo Eno is the only candidate that will sustain that peace as well as improve their economic wellbeing.
