Pastor Umo Eno and Senator Akon Eyankenyi were officially inaugurated as the fifth democratically elected Governor and Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, respectively.
The State Chief Judge, Justice Ekaette Obot, presided over the swearing-in ceremony held at the Godswill International Stadium in Uyo. In his address following the ceremony, the newly sworn-in Governor expressed concern over the political divisions that have plagued the state and pledged to establish a bipartisan reconciliation committee to address these issues.
The Governor emphasized the need for unity among the people, stating, “I urge our citizens to come together and strive towards building a state where the pain of one Akwa Ibomite is felt by all, and the success of one Akwa Ibomite is celebrated by all. We have allowed politics to create unnecessary divisions among us, but this should not be the case.”
He reiterated his commitment to establishing a bipartisan reconciliation committee, which would provide a platform for constructive dialogue rather than resorting to conflict when addressing critical issues pertaining to development, unity, and harmony.
Furthermore, the Governor called upon the citizens to rally behind his ARISE agenda, aimed at advancing the achievements of the immediate past Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel. He assured the people that he would govern as a leader for all Akwa Ibomites, irrespective of their political affiliations.
“As we embark on this new government, we invite all Akwa Ibomites to rise and embrace the vision of greatness encapsulated in our ARISE agenda. This includes investing in agriculture, healthcare services, and education, as well as reshaping the narrative of our state,” he stated.
The Governor also stressed his commitment to prioritizing the welfare of state civil servants and building upon the successes of Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel’s administration. Additionally, he appealed to Governor Emmanuel not to abandon him after leaving office, acknowledging the significant contributions made by past governors in propelling Akwa Ibom State to its present state of progress and accomplishments.
