Two security guards working at Sulfuk Nigeria Ltd. Fabrication yard along Terminal Road were killed, according to the Akwa Ibom Police Command.
SP Odiko Macdon, the State Police Public Relations Officer, verified this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Eket, Akwa Ibom.
He said that criminals stormed into the yard and used matchets to kill two security guards, as well as carting away protected cables.
According to Macdon, the event occurred at 10 a.m. on Jan. 29.
“The Police Command in Akwa Ibom has been informed of a claim that Ibeno indigenes killed two Eket sons in the Ibeno Local Government Area,” says the statement (LGA).
“As a command, we do not join issues with either of the two local governments because the constitution mandates us to provide security for the entire state of Akwa Ibom, not just a certain local government area,” he said.
“However, our attention had been called to what we can only describe as hostility and generalization from the two local governments,” he said.
The bodies had been removed and deposited at the mortuary, according to Macdon.
He said that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Amiengheme Andrew, had ordered a discreet investigation into the matter.
