Godswill Akpabio, a former minister of Niger Delta affairs and former governor of Akwa-Ibom, was named by the Supreme Court on Friday as the official All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Akwa-Ibom North-West senatorial election on February 25.
Akpabio was reinstated as an APC candidate in the upcoming election by the supreme court shortly after it overturned the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal’s decision to remove Akpabio from that position. Justice Ibrahim Saulawa delivered the unanimous verdict in the case.

The higher court claims that when the lower court asserted authority over a political party’s internal affairs, it violated the law.
As a result, the Supreme Court overturned the Court of Appeal’s decision and upheld Justice Donatus Okorowo’s ruling that Akpabio had been legitimately nominated by his party.
