Reverend Richard Peters, a priest of the African Church in Akwa Ibom State, has strongly criticized those who have been denouncing the recent appointments made by newly sworn-in Governor Pastor Umo Eno. According to Peters, these criticisms are rooted in malice and witchcraft, lacking any factual basis.

During a radio program in Uyo, where listeners were able to call in, some individuals claimed that the governor was destined to fail due to appointing someone who allegedly lacks the required technical expertise to a critical position. However, in response to these claims, Peters highlighted that such judgments were made out of ignorance and questioned how people could evaluate the success or failure of a government that has only just begun its term.

“It is far too early to pass judgment or assess the governor’s performance when he has only been in office for two days,” Peters expressed.

He further argued that it was devilish and an act of witchcraft to criticize and judge someone even before they have had the chance to commence their work. Peters reminded listeners that the governor had only made appointments for positions such as Protocol Officer, Economic Advisor, Spokesperson, and Secretary to the State Governmentโ€”roles that hold great importance. He emphasized the need to observe the governor’s actions and achievements during his first 100 days or even his entire term before forming conclusive opinions.

While urging the people to support Governor Umo Eno in fulfilling his mandate, the clergyman acknowledged that criticism is a natural part of any government, but urged individuals to provide constructive feedback. Peters emphasized that it was unfair to pass judgment on the governor’s performance after just two days in office and during the initial stages of assembling a team to interpret his plans.

“We understand that criticism will arise, but it is premature to do so within the first two days of his administration and while he is in the process of establishing a team to implement his blueprint. Just as you wouldn’t assess the performance of a student who has just entered school after two days, it is essential to allow him to undergo necessary training, take tests, and evaluate his progress,” Peters asserted.

In conclusion, the priest defended Governor Umo Eno’s appointments and called upon the people to give their full support while providing constructive criticism when necessary. He encouraged the public to adopt a more patient and measured approach in evaluating the governor’s performance, allowing him the opportunity to demonstrate his capabilities and fulfill his responsibilities.
