In a successful operation, operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command thwarted an armed robbery attempt in the Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, resulting in the neutralization of three armed robbers and the capture of one suspect.
According to CSP Odiko MacDon, the Police Public Relations Officer, the armed robbers, estimated to be around 10 in number, were intercepted during their attempt to rob the National Museum in Ikot Inyang Village. Upon engagement by the police operatives, a fierce gun battle ensued.
During the exchange of fire, three of the armed robbers were neutralized by the police, while one suspect was apprehended. Additionally, the police recovered incriminating evidence from the scene, including a locally made pistol, one expended cartridge, one live cartridge, and vandalized wire cables, among other items.
CSP Odiko MacDon emphasized that the swift response of a crack team from the Ikot Ekpene Division was instrumental in foiling the robbery attempt and neutralizing the armed robbers. He also confirmed that efforts are underway to track down and apprehend the remaining suspects who managed to flee the scene, possibly with gunshot wounds sustained during the confrontation.
The Police Public Relations Officer reiterated the commitment of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, to ensuring the safety and security of residents. He urged members of the public to continue cooperating with the police by providing timely information that can help prevent criminal activities and apprehend perpetrators.
