Former Attorney General of Akwa Ibom state, Uwemedimo Nwoko SAN, has issued a demand for an apology from former Senator Elisha Abbo for his baseless allegations of bribery against prominent members of the judiciary.
Nwoko emphasized that Abbo must publicly apologize to the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, Justice Chioma Iheme Nwosu (a Justice of the Supreme Court designate), and the entire judiciary for his unfounded accusations.
The demand comes in response to Abbo’s press conference on February 1, 2024, during which he levied unsubstantiated claims of bribery against Justice Chioma Iheme Nwosu and various other judges and court officials, including accusing the President of the Court of Appeal of being a “cash-and-carry Judge.”
In a statement, Nwoko stressed that Abbo must provide evidence to support his damaging assertions or face legal repercussions for his malicious falsehoods.
Despite repeated challenges, Abbo has failed to produce any proof to corroborate his serious allegations, prompting strong condemnation from Nwoko and others.
Nwoko highlighted Abbo’s past behavior, including baseless accusations against Senator Godswill Akpabio, and emphasized the gravity of the senator’s unfounded attacks on the judiciary.
Nwoko called for an end to such unwarranted assaults on judicial officers, urging Abbo to retract his statements or face the consequences within the confines of the law.
