The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has successfully apprehended three individuals found in possession of 180 bags of counterfeit Diesel, concealed within kernel shells. The incident occurred along the Calabar-Itu Highway in Akwa Ibom State.
According to the NSCDC Public Relations Officer in the State, Friday Ekerete, the Anti-vandal squad of the NSCDC apprehended the suspects on March 17th and 19th, 2024. The products, cleverly concealed within kernel shells, were discovered during routine inspections.
Two suspects were intercepted on March 17th, transporting 100 bags of suspected adulterated Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) in an open bucket trailer. Similarly, on March 19th, another suspect was arrested with 80 cellophane bags of AGO, concealed within an open bucket trailer. Preliminary forensic tests confirmed the AGO as adulterated.
The suspects, identified as Musa Shehu (29), Babayo Mohammed (25), and Ibrahim Mohammed (17), are currently under investigation, providing valuable information to aid in further inquiries.
Efforts to trace the origin of the counterfeit products are ongoing, as the NSCDC intensifies its efforts to combat economic sabotage in the region.
Additionally, the NSCDC confirmed the completion of an investigation into the case of two suspects apprehended by the Nigerian Navy on February 22, 2024, with 17 drums of petrol. The suspects will be prosecuted accordingly.
Furthermore, the NSCDC detained four individuals for various offences, including Godwin Essang, arrested for criminal trespass, fraud, and impersonation of a Police Officer. Essang had verbally threatened and extorted money from a victim under false pretenses, leading to his apprehension after a complaint was lodged.
The NSCDC continues its vigilance and efforts to maintain security and combat illegal activities in Akwa Ibom State.
