The Akwa Ibom State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has successfully arrested eight suspects involved in various offenses, including child abduction, child labor, and illegal mining in separate operations in the state.

Acting on credible intelligence, the state commandant, Eluwade Eluyemi, deployed the command tactical squad to a residence in Ndom Ebom in Uruan Local Government Area.

The raid targeted an apartment where a 14-year-old, Wisdom Aniekpeno Efiok, had been abducted and forced to live and work for one year without the consent of his parents. The minor was reportedly used for fishing activities in riverine areas, extending into the high sea and crossing into Cameroon.

CC Eluwade, addressing the media at the State Command headquarters in Uyo, revealed that seven suspects were arrested in connection with the child abduction, and Mr. Otobong Aneitie Udoekong, identified as a mastermind suspect, is undergoing investigation for criminal conspiracy, abduction of a minor, and subjecting the victim to child labor.

The other suspects are also being profiled to determine their level of involvement.

In another operation, personnel of the Command arrested one suspect and impounded two tipper trucks and a Peugeot car at a borrow pit site in Ikot Anyang Offot Village, Ekpri Nsukara in Uyo Local Government Area. The suspect, Mr. Peter Ime Okon, was apprehended for engaging in illegal mining activity without a mining license.
