The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has started educating Akwa Ibom’s Heads of Federal Establishments on the security features on the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) newly designed naira notes .
On December 15, 2022, the CBN released newly designed N200, N500, and N1000 Naira notes to the general public in Nigeria and other nations that use the naira in financial operations. These notes have several security measures.
During her presentation at the Tuesday meeting of the Association of Heads of Federal Establishments in Uyo, Mrs. Esther Peter, State Director of NOA, highlighted the aspects.
She claims that raising awareness became important in order for the Heads of Federal Establishments to raise awareness at the grassroots level in preparation for the country’s residents’ eventual adoption of the notes.
The NOA, according to her, would launch a campaign to advocate for youngsters, students, market women associations, traditional leaders, and religious leaders.
In order to get the message out to the general public, Mrs. Peter stated that the agency has started playing vernacular and pidgin jingles on radio stations around the state.
“The program is not directed at any particular set of Nigerians, as has been suggested, but rather at boosting the economy.
“The sensitisation is intended to reach the people at the grassroots and keep them abreast of the government policies and programmes,” she explained
The N200, N500, and N1000 notes would no longer be considered legal tender as of January 31. She urged locals to take the policy seriously and make sure that their old notes are deposited in their bank accounts.
According to the State Director, all Local Government Areas would receive the sensitization campaign for a better understanding.
“For the policy to achieve the intended purposes and be accepted, residents, especially those at the grassroots, need to be sensitised, educated and mobilised for better understanding of government programmes.
“Citizens are to take their old N200, N500 and N1000 notes to the bank for lodgement. There will be no charge by banks on deposits above the threshold,” she stressed.
Mrs. Peter listed the advantages of the program, including ensuring that there is less extra cash in circulation, lowering inflation, cutting costs associated with cash management, and boosting the economy.
She declared that NOA, which is in charge of disseminating Federal Government policies and programs, would not give up on informing the public about the steps the government is taking to raise the standard of living for Nigerians.
