The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has embarked on a comprehensive inspection of both ongoing and completed projects in Abia State, reaffirming its commitment to prioritizing regional and sustainable initiatives throughout the Niger Delta region.
During a site visit to the 9-kilometre Obehie/Oke-Ikpe Road in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, Mr. Charles Ogunmola, the NDDC Executive Director of Projects, expressed the Commission’s dedication to ensuring the timely completion of projects across the Niger Delta area.
Accompanied by fellow NDDC Directors, Ogunmola highlighted the significant impact the Obehie/Oke-Ikpe Road project holds for multiple communities spanning Abia and Akwa Ibom States. He emphasized that the road’s restoration has revitalized socio-economic activities, commending the contractor for their dedication to quality and progress.
Mr. Goddy Nosiri, Director of NDDC’s Abia State office, echoed the positive changes brought about by the road, underscoring its role in facilitating convenient access and safe shortcuts for residents from various neighboring states.
Additionally, the installation of street lights along the road has enhanced safety and improved the lives of the local population. Dr. Matt Offeh, Chief Executive of the project’s managing company, praised the NDDC’s extensive contributions to the region, highlighting the multitude of projects executed across different states.
Dr. Offeh emphasized that the impact of NDDC projects often goes unnoticed, urging more media coverage of their endeavors. He applauded the Executive Director of Projects for personally inspecting the Obehie/Oke-Ikpe Road project and encouraged regular inspections to ensure the delivery of high-quality work within stipulated timeframes.
Furthermore, the NDDC Executive Director evaluated the deteriorated segment of the Port Harcourt-Aba Expressway at Obehie. He assured that the Commission would collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Works to address the pressing issues and make the road at least passable.
Mr. Ogunmola also assessed the 132KVA Line 2/30 Power Transmission Substation in Ukwa West LGA, which had remained inactive for an extended period. Acknowledging its potential socio-economic benefits for Abia State and the surrounding region, he pledged to revitalize the project. The substation, originally intended to power Ukwa West, Ukwa East, and Ugwunagbo local government areas, had reached a 50% completion status before being stalled and vandalized.
In line with its mission, the NDDC continues to prioritize the development and enhancement of vital infrastructure across the Niger Delta region, fostering positive socio-economic growth and progress.
