The Nigerian Navy’s Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Ibaka, Akwa Ibom State, has apprehended three suspected oil thieves in possession of crude oil valued at N32 million.
The suspects were captured on Tuesday morning following an intelligence tip-off on illegal crude oil activities in the area.
According to FOB Commanding Officer, Capt. Uche Aneke, the suspects were intercepted with a wooden boat containing approximately 60,000 liters of crude oil in 11 Geepee tanks, alongside outboard engines and a pumping machine. The crude oil was allegedly stolen offshore from Ibeno, Akwa Ibom.
Capt. Aneke issued a stern warning against any form of illegal activities in Nigerian waters, urging individuals or groups involved in such activities to cease immediately. The suspects and seized items have been handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for further investigation.
