Renowned Nollywood actress, Ini Edo, recently took center stage on the Becoming TV Series, where she shared her inspiring life journey with a group of female entrepreneurs.
The actress and entrepreneur used the platform to encourage the women to transform their passions into profitable ventures, culminating in the empowerment of participants with seed capital.
During the TV-styled pitch competition and roundtable, Ini Edo shed light on her early beginnings and experiences, offering hope to the girl child through her pet project, the GEMS AFRICA FOUNDATION. Emphasizing the vital role women play in global development, she underscored the significance of engaging and empowering women, citing their substantial contributions to sustainable development.
Ini Edo highlighted the positive impact of economic empowerment on women, making them active contributors to community growth and prosperity. She stressed the importance of education and skills training, citing studies that show educated women tend to invest in sectors benefiting households, creating a multiplier effect for development.
Under the GEMS Africa Foundation, Ini Edo revealed plans for capacity-building training, grant facilitation, and equipment financing for 500 African women in technology, agriculture, creative industries, and digital skills. The foundation aims to empower women for economic development, fostering personal growth, economic stability, and long-term prosperity.
Collaborating with the Becoming TV series, GEMS Africa has initiated the empowerment journey, launching the first batch of 50 female entrepreneurs who will access seed funding and equipment financing in January. Ini Edo invited partners to join in the empowerment journey, emphasizing the potential for positive change by supporting women-led businesses.
Notable contributors at the event included William Anwana, CEO of HaJem Consults, who described the event as a mind-opener, revealing the depth of passion and creativity in the African female population. Meflyn Anwana emphasized the importance of providing every child and woman access to quality education and entrepreneurialism.
The empowerment program also featured insights from various experts, including the Group Manager of Marketing and Communications at Ibom Air, Annie Essienette, Special Assistant to Governor Umo Eno on Media, Aniefiok MacauLey, and the Akwa Ibom State Coordinator of SMEDAN, Lucy Ekpenyong. The high point of the event was the presentation of seed funding to support the first batch winners of the pitch deck, including Utibe Akwa, Joy Ennang, Bascilin CEO, Ini Ubong Umoren, and Effiong Utibe Edet.
