The Member Representing Itu/Ibiono Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Ime Bassey Okon, has expressed gratitude to political stakeholders in Itu Local Government, Akwa Ibom State, for their support during the 2023 general elections.
At an event hosted by Rt. Hon. Henry Archibong, the Political Leader of Itu and former Federal Constituency Representative, Ime Okon acknowledged the pivotal role of stakeholders in his electoral success and highlighted his achievements and future plans for the constituency.
“I am here to say thank you. You stood by me as brothers and sisters, and I will always remain grateful. Despite the challenges of a highly contested election petition, we have stabilized and made significant progress over the past year,” Okon said.
He highlighted completed projects such as classroom blocks at the Technical School, Ayadehe, and North Itam Primary School, solar-powered streetlights in various communities, and the ongoing construction of Joshua Uwa Street. He also detailed initiatives like bursary payments to Nigerian Law School students and upcoming plans for a free medical outreach and bursaries for 200 students in January.
Addressing infrastructure issues, he assured stakeholders of efforts to secure interventions for erosion sites at Ntiat Itam and Mkpeti, emphasizing his commitment to meeting the constituency’s needs.
In his goodwill message, Rt. Hon. KufreAbasi Edidem, Deputy Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, commended Okon for his humility and dedication. “This act of humility and recognition endears you to the people. You have my full support,” Edidem said.
Other speakers, including Itu Local Government Chairman Hon. Ubong Wilson Nkutt and Itu PDP Chapter Chairman Mrs. Inemesit Maxwell, praised Okon for his impactful representation and initiatives.
The event concluded with the distribution of Christmas and New Year gifts to stakeholders, reinforcing Okon’s call for unity and continued support for the Umo Eno administration and the PDP to ensure sustained development in the constituency.
