Former Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, joined top management staff of Ibom Air in Montreal, Canada, to receive the first of 10 brand new Airbus A220-300 series airplanes acquired by the state-owned airline.
Ibom Air signed for the delivery of the aircraft during the 2021 Dubai Airshow.
Ibom Air, founded in 2019 during Emmanuel’s administration, is the first airline in Nigeria to take delivery of the Airbus A220. The delivery took place at Airbus’ Mirabel facility, with top Airbus executives, including Benoit Schultz, CEO of Airbus, and Daniel Wenninger, Vice-President, overseeing the presentation of the new aircraft to the delegation.
Captain Mfon Udom, Managing Director of Ibom Air, and George Uriesi, Chief Operating Officer, led the top management officers during the inspection and receipt of the first Airbus A220-300.
Udom Emmanuel expressed his vision for Ibom Air to become a dominant player in the West African and African aviation hub during his tenure as governor. He commended the current governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for sustaining the aviation development project of the state.
The Airbus A220-300 is known for its revolutionary fuel efficiency, advanced technology, and passenger comfort and safety features. It is suitable for short and medium-haul commercial operations, with a range of up to seven hours (3,450 nautical miles).
The addition of the Airbus A220-300 to Ibom Air’s fleet positions the airline for expanded service across diverse destinations in Africa. Udom Emmanuel expressed enthusiasm for the new aircraft, emphasizing Ibom Air’s commitment to providing world-class airline services to customers.
