Ibom Air Apologizes to Customers for Disrupted Services

Ibom Air, a commercial airline owned by the Akwa Ibom State Government, has issued an apology to its customers who were affected by disrupted services on a recent Thursday.

In a statement posted on the airline’s Facebook page, the Director of Airline Services, Amaka Echetabu, expressed their most sincere apologies for the service disruption.

The airline explained that they had experienced several days of service disruptions due to unexpected incidents of aircraft maintenance but did not provide specific details regarding the affected flights. They acknowledged that it was not their proudest moment and offered an unreserved apology for the inconvenience caused.

Ibom Air, which recently expanded its operations with the launch of Nigeria-Ghana flights, is known for its scheduled reliability and punctuality. The apology was commended by many, including former federal lawmaker Onofiok Luke, who praised the airline for taking responsibility and its commitment to excellence.

Akwa Ibom to Deploy 14,000 Security Personnel for October 5 Local Government Elections

The Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) will deploy 14,000 security officers across the state for the upcoming local government elections on October 5.

This was disclosed by AKISIEC Chairman, Aniedi Ikoiwak, during a press briefing in Uyo. The officers will secure 4,353 polling units in 369 wards across 31 LGAs.

Ikoiwak emphasized that 12 political parties have confirmed their participation, while over 17,000 applications were received for ad-hoc staff, with around 12,000 to 13,000 candidates to be selected.

Topfaith Schools in Mkpatak, Essien Udim LGA of Akwa Ibom State, has awarded N1.5 million to Master Emmanuel Zekhome for his exceptional performance in the 2024 Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE).

The award was announced by the school’s Chairman, Dr. Emmanuel Abraham, during a press briefing in Uyo.

Dr. Abraham explained that the cash prize, part of an ongoing initiative to reward academic excellence, reflects the school’s dedication to fostering outstanding student achievements. He highlighted that of the 193 candidates presented for the SSCE, 40 top-performing students achieved exceptional results, with three students scoring eight ‘A’s each.

He attributed the success to the combined efforts of teachers, parents, and students, reaffirming the school’s commitment to continuous improvement and excellence.

The Akwa Ibom State government is considering revoking the Certificates of Ownership (C of O) of companies responsible for recurring oil spills in the state. This follows its commitment to address environmental issues, such as oil spills, mining impacts, and waste management.

Iquo Abia, the Permanent Secretary of the Akwa Ibom Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources, made this known during a meeting with the Environmental Defenders Network (EDEN).

She praised EDEN’s efforts and agreed to collaborate on environmental initiatives. Abia emphasized that oil multinationals in the state must be closely monitored, with possible revocation of C of O as a deterrent to environmental violations.

EDEN’s Executive Director, Chima Williams, urged the state government to impose stricter laws on companies guilty of environmental damage, advocating for stronger protections for host communities.
