I Have One Vote And I’ll Use It For Aspirant Who Preaches Peace, Prosperity & Economic Development-Gov. Emmanuel

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel has affirmed that there was nothing wrong with his decision to back a gubernatorial aspirant ahead of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) primaries.
Speaking during the 10th session of a media chat tagged ” Governor Speaks” he stated that he, like every Nigerian has one vote and that he would deploy his singular vote wisely by voting for the person who will offer peace, prosperity, healthcare, economic development and infrastructural advancement.

Defending his decision to back Pastor Eno Bassey Umo, the seasoned businessman and current Commissioner of Lands & Water Resources, Governor Udom noted that apart from the fact that his choice was influenced by God, his choice has the requisite experience, expertise and temperament to galvanize the state.
He also revealed that there is no disunity in Akwa Ibom PDP, insisting that the speculations over cracks in the party were mere social media rumours. Adding that the party will be ready to face any opposition when the time comes.
He used the opportunity to thank Akwa Ibom youths for ensuring that the state was safe, he said the general security has helped the government concentrate on delivering dividends of democracy to the people.
He noted that he has been harping on security ahead of 2023 because he does not want the state to witness the kind of insecurity unleashed on citizens a few years ago.
“As a governor, I work on intelligence and not information, I respond and not react to issues” And we know what we are saying when we speak about security all the time”.
While appealing to indigenes to avoid communal clashes as the planting season begins and settle land disputes in court instead of resorting to violence, Governor Udom noted that his government has not taken its eyes off the fight against COVID-19 and that was the reason it is constructing an Infectious Disease Centre.
He urged Akwa Ibom indigenes to be vigilant despite the fact that the restrictions have been a bit relaxed.
Mr Governor stated that the awareness on COVID-19 have been beneficial as it has increased citizens’ approach to Water, Sanitation, Hygiene and healthy living like wearing of face masks.
On education, he said his government is doing everything to increase Akwa Ibom candidates to increase their pass rate to 80-90% in the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination ( WASSCE), he however asked parents to assist the government by ensuring that their children are more serious and not take government’s investment for granted.
On job creation, he noted that apart from the skill development centre, the MRO project and the massive road construction projects going on around the state has been used to engage the youths. He assured that his government will never rest in it oars and will will work assiduously till the last day of the administration.
Governor Udom noted that his government has been very deliberate in its infrastructural development, asserting that no LGA in the state does not have a signature project in its domain.

The appointments were announced by the Head of Civil Service, Elder Effiong E. Essien, in a statement issued on October 10th.

The newly appointed permanent secretaries are:

  • Roseline A. Mfon
  • Okon Effiong Tom
  • Bassey James Ekanem
  • Rosemary Aniekan Ubia
  • Rita Sunday Akpan-Essien
  • Aniekan Ubong Akpan
  • Eno Ime Akpan
  • Doris Tom Ikpuho

The swearing-in ceremony for the new permanent secretaries will take place on Monday, October 14th, at 4 pm in the Exco Chamber, Government House, Uyo.

Senate President Commends Akwa Ibom Governor on Local Government Elections

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has praised Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno for the outcome of the recent local government elections in the state.

Despite the controversy surrounding the elections, particularly in Akpabio’s home LGA, the Senate President commended the governor for ensuring fairness and allowing the APC candidate’s victory to stand.

Akpabio acknowledged that the elections were not perfect but expressed gratitude to Governor Eno for his commitment to improving the election process. He emphasized the need to reposition the local government system and ensure that local government elections are free from party dominance.

The Senate President also praised the Supreme Court’s ruling that local government funds should go directly to the councils and called on the National Assembly to take steps to implement this decision.

Reflecting on his own experience as governor of Akwa Ibom, Akpabio shared how he conducted credible local government elections during his tenure, even in the face of opposition. His comments were supported by other senators, including Senator Abba Moro, who initiated the discussion on local government elections during the Senate session.

Akwa Ibom Assembly Passes Bill to Amend Local Government Law

The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has passed a bill to amend the local government administration law, aiming to improve the management and operation of the third-tier system.

The amendments were prompted by the recent creation of additional wards by the State Independent Electoral Commission.

The bill, presented by Rt. Hon. Mfon Idung, chairman of the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, proposes changes to sections 49 and 52 of the law. Section 49 would allow the Chairman to appoint Supervisors from outside the legislative council to head departments, while section 52 would increase the number of Advisers.

The amendments were supported by other members of the House, who noted that they would promote harmony, ensure smooth administration, and create more opportunities for appointments in the local government system.

The bill was passed after being considered and adopted by the Committee of the Whole and subsequently read for the third time. The speaker directed the clerk of the Assembly to communicate the amended bill to the executive for further action.
