Chief Eyo Edet, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State, has been kidnapped by suspected armed assailants.
Known locally as Eyo Aswang, Edet was abducted from his filling station, Eyotech Nigeria Limited, located in the Oron Local Government area of the state.
According to a source interviewed by Punch, the abductors, traveling in a Sienna car, confronted Edet, who had previously served as the Deputy Coordinator of the PDP’s Divine Campaign Organisation in Oron during the last election, before taking him away. The kidnappers later transported their captive to a waiting speedboat and set the Sienna vehicle ablaze.
At the time of this report, no ransom demands had been made by the abductors to Edet’s family. The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Odiko Macdon, confirmed the incident and stated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Olatoye Durosinmi, had visited the scene and initiated an investigation.
Macdon assured the public that efforts were underway to apprehend those responsible for the abduction. He added, “The Commissioner of Police visited the scene of the incident and even went to the waterfront. The Sienna used in the act has been recovered. Investigations are underway, and I am confident that those responsible will be apprehended soon.”
The abduction of Chief Eyo Edet has raised concerns about the security situation in Akwa Ibom State and highlights the need for swift action to ensure the safe return of the kidnapped PDP member.
