Unidentified gunmen abducted Samuel Ekerenam, the owner of Hephzibah Mall in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, during a violent attack on Saturday night.
The assailants stormed the shopping complex around 10:00 p.m., firing sporadically to scare away bystanders. During the attack, Ekerenam’s driver was fatally shot, and a police officer assigned to him sustained severe injuries, according to eyewitness Udobong Asuquo.
A family source disclosed that the kidnappers have not yet reached out, leaving their motives unclear.
State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Timfon John, confirmed the incident and assured the public that tactical operatives had been deployed on the orders of Commissioner of Police Joseph Eribo to rescue the victim and apprehend the perpetrators. He pledged the safe return of Ekerenam and justice for the attack.
