Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has sworn in 23 new commissioners and a special adviser to support the realization of his ambitious economic blueprints known as the “Arise Agenda.”

The newly appointed officials, with the exception of one, previously served as commissioners and a special adviser in the cabinet of Governor Udom Emmanuel, Eno’s predecessor.

Addressing the new appointees as “my colleagues” during the swearing-in ceremony at Government House in Uyo on Thursday, Governor Eno assured them that they would receive comprehensive guidance to execute their responsibilities effectively.

The decision to reappoint former colleagues has faced criticism from various quarters, including members of the ruling party in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In response, Governor Eno explained that these individuals were his “foot soldiers” who deserved recognition for their loyalty and dedication during election campaigns. He emphasized their tested experience and deep understanding of the system, which he believes will be invaluable in advancing his economic blueprint.

Elaborating on the significance of the appointments, Governor Eno expressed gratitude to those who stood by him during challenging times and acknowledged their sacrifices for his success. He stated, “My conscience would not allow me to throw you away,” underscoring the importance of rewarding loyalty and commitment.

Governor Eno also announced the establishment of the Ministry of Internal and Waterways Security, which will work collaboratively with security agencies to maintain peace and harmony within the state. Furthermore, he directed that all other smaller security groups participating in government functions would undergo training and be coordinated by the new ministry.

The swearing-in ceremony marks a significant step in Governor Eno’s efforts to advance the “Arise Agenda” and promote peace, growth, and transformation in Akwa Ibom State. With a team of experienced and familiar faces, the administration aims to achieve its vision for the state’s prosperity and development.
