In a significant move towards social welfare, Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has launched the ‘ARISE Initiative,’ a program designed to provide support to elderly individuals across the state. The inauguration ceremony took place at the All Nations Christian Ministry International (ANCMI) in Eket.
The ‘ARISE Initiative’ aligns with the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) promoted by Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, the wife of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Governor Eno commended President Tinubu for his efforts in promoting the independence of the judiciary and expressed his commitment to collaborate with the Federal Government under President Tinubu, despite being a member of the PDP.
The program will be administered by the Office of the Governor’s Wife, Pastor Patience Umo Eno, in conjunction with the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, involving all female commissioners in the state exco.
Governor Eno acknowledged and appreciated the recent gesture by the First Lady through the Renewed Hope Initiative, where N100,000 was provided to 250 elders across the state. He affirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting positive initiatives that benefit the people of Akwa Ibom.
Under the ‘ARISE Initiative,’ each of the 500 selected elders across the state will receive N50,000. The selection process will be carried out by local government transition chairmen, who have been urged by the governor to ensure transparency in the selection process for maximum impact.
Governor Eno emphasized that the initiative aligns with the government’s broader plan to establish a center for the elderly. He expressed the belief that individuals who have contributed significantly to the state over the years deserve to be honored and cared for while they are still alive.
