Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State was recognized over the weekend with an Award of Honour for his outstanding contributions to the aviation sector in the state and Nigeria at large.
The ceremony, held at Victor Attah International Airport, was part of activities marking the 2024 International Civil Aviation Day.
The event featured a fitness walk, captivating dance performances, and a celebration of the significant progress made in the state’s aviation industry under Governor Eno’s leadership.
Deputy Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. KufreAbasi Edidem, who attended as the special guest of honor, praised the governor for prioritizing aviation as a driver of economic growth, tourism, and regional development. He emphasized the pivotal role of the sector in advancing the state’s economy.
Dr. Iniong Essien, Chairman of the Ibom Airport Development Company, commended the airport workers for their dedication, attributing the industry’s achievements to their efforts and the governor’s steadfast support. He also expressed gratitude for the safe and secure environment provided for both workers and passengers at the airport.
Comrade Sunny James, Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Akwa Ibom Chapter, lauded Governor Eno for his forward-thinking initiatives, including enhancing airport facilities, strengthening safety measures, and increasing flight operations.
Similarly, Mr. Ukeme Utuk, Chairman of the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) at Victor Attah International Airport, applauded the governor for reviewing workers’ conditions of service and emphasized the need for modern equipment and improved remuneration to sustain growth in the sector.
The 2024 International Civil Aviation Day celebration highlighted the vital role of aviation in fostering safety, security, and sustainable development, with calls for continued technological advancements and investment in the industry.
