Governor Umo Eno Authorizes N2.7 Billion for Gratuity, Leave Grants

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has approved the release of an additional N2.7 billion for the payment of gratuities to retired workers and leave grants for primary school teachers.

The breakdown of the payment includes N725 million for the 2023 Leave Grant for primary school teachers, N500 million for gratuity for primary school teachers, N500 million for the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), and N975 million for gratuity for retired state civil servants.

This move comes as part of Governor Umo Eno’s ongoing commitment to prioritize the welfare of workers in the state. Since assuming office nine months ago, Governor Umo Eno has disbursed a total of N14.7 billion in gratuities and leave grants for retired workers in the state. This recent release adds to the N12 billion previously authorized by the Governor for the same purpose.

The payment of gratuities and leave grants during these challenging economic times is a welcome development for both retired and serving workers. It underscores Governor Umo Eno’s reputation as a people-centric leader dedicated to improving the lives of citizens in Akwa Ibom State.

Essien Ndueso, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Research and Documentation, reiterated Governor Umo Eno’s commitment to the welfare of workers during a live radio interview on XL 106.9FM, Uyo. He highlighted Governor Umo Eno’s track record, noting that since assuming office in 2015, he has consistently prioritized the payment of gratuities and arrears for local government workers and primary school teachers.
