In a significant recognition of his contributions to the tourism industry, Governor Pastor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has been honored with the Tourism Governor of the Year 2023 award.

This accolade is part of a prestigious recognition initiative led by naija7wonders, in partnership with African Travel Quarterly (ATQNEWS) and the Abuja Jabamah Tourism Expo.

The competition spotlighted seven states for their vibrant engagement in tourism activities. Out of these, Ekiti State, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River State were earmarked by the Nigeria Association of Tour Operators (NATOP) for special promotion within Nigeria.

The selection process involved a comprehensive evaluation that included a public vote accounting for 40% and deliberations by the esteemed Tourism 100 Club members making up the remaining 60%.

Governor Eno’s victory was significantly propelled by an overwhelming amount of public support, despite strong backing for Ekiti State’s Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji from the Tourism 100 club members.

Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State also made a notable impression, securing third place in the competition.

The organizers extended their congratulations to Governor Eno and the honorable mentions, acknowledging their significant efforts and commitment to enhancing Nigeria’s tourism sector.

This recognition not only highlights their individual contributions but also underscores the collective endeavor to position Nigeria as a leading tourism destination.

The formal presentation of the award is scheduled to take place on April 19th at the Wonders of Nigeria Expo in Lagos.

This event, marking its 10th iteration, aims to foster a unified initiative to promote the stunning beauty and diversity of Nigeria by showcasing 1000 pictures that capture the breathtaking aspects of the country.
