Udom Emmanuel, the governor of Akwa Ibom State, has explained why he chose Umo Eno, his commissioner of lands, as his preferred choice to follow him in office in 2023, claiming that his decision was based on the fact that he cared for the state.
He said that he waited for God to reveal the person who would continue the state’s growth progress during the previous six years.
At a gathering held at the government house lodge in Uyo on Sunday, Eno was unveiled by Elders and Stakeholders of the People’s Democratic Party, as well as religious leaders.
His anointed successor was described as God-fearing, humble, and a successful entrepreneur by him.
The governor claimed his decision is based on his love for the state, while fielding questions from journalists during the commissioning of Spectrum Television, the state’s first privately held cable television channel, owned and operated by TAF Media Group.
“Let me state firmly, I mean well for this State,” he added. “That is why I waited for God to reveal me the guy who would continue the pace of developmental advances we’ve begun in the last six-plus years and then move the needle even further.”
“He is a man of peace, and he will ensure that the peace and security of life that we have enjoyed for the past six years is preserved.” His life narrative is similar to that of the majority of Akwa Ibom people.
“He came from the Police barracks, where, as he recounted during his Thanksgiving Service last year, life was bleak and hope seemed far away.
“Through hard work, he summoned hope and overcome his early problems, eventually becoming one of our state’s largest employers of labor.”
“His narrative exemplifies our Dakkada ideology and will inspire and drive our children.”
The Governor stated that he did not seek a surrogate to serve a third term, but rather was elected by the people.
