The Federal Government has announced plans to inaugurate the next phase of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, extending from Cross River to Akwa Ibom.

This development was disclosed by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, during a stakeholders’ engagement meeting held at Ibom Hall in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Saturday.

According to a statement by the ministryโ€™s Director of Information and Public Relations, Edet Ekpenyong, Umahi introduced Sections Three and Four of the prominent highway project.

“We are here to introduce Section Three and Four of the famous Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway,” Umahi stated. “We started and awarded Section One, which began in Lagos and terminated at the deep port in Lagos, spanning 47.4 km. Section Two starts at Lekki Deep Sea Port and extends to the famous Dangote Refinery. The President has graciously directed that Sections Three and Four must start at Cross River and stop at Akwa Ibom.”

Section Three will cover 27 km in Akwa Ibom and 38 km in Cross River State, while Section Four will be entirely within Akwa Ibom, spanning 80 km. This totals 107 km of new roadway, significantly benefiting the coastal highway network in these regions.

Umahi highlighted that once the procurement process is completed and the contracts for Sections Three and Four are awarded, work will commence simultaneously across multiple subsections. He praised President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to infrastructure development, stating, “Tinubu is a man who matches his words with actions. We are pleased with the commendations and support received from Nigerians and the many benefits of the coastal highway.”

Senate President Godswill Akpabio also expressed his gratitude to President Tinubu for commencing Sections Three and Four in Cross River and Akwa Ibom. He urged the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, to provide full support to the federal government for the successful execution of the project.
