The Department of State Services (DSS), Akwa Ibom State Command, has announced its readiness to arraign several suspects in court for their alleged involvement in various crimes, including cultism, kidnapping, murder, and armed robbery across different locations in the state.

Dr. Doyin Adetuberu, the new State Director of the DSS, made this disclosure during a courtesy visit by the new Executive Council of the Akwa Ibom State Correspondentsโ€™ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), led by Comrade Anthony Bassey of The Nation Newspaper, on Tuesday.

Adetuberu highlighted that the success in apprehending the suspects was achieved through intelligence-led strategies, facilitated by close collaboration with other sister security agencies and members of the society.

Since assuming office in January, Adetuberu mentioned that significant efforts have been made to raid notable flashpoints in Uyo, the state capital, and other crime-prone areas outside the metropolis, resulting in the arrest of individuals who will soon face prosecution.

Assuring the public, Adetuberu expressed confidence that the security agencies in the state would soon earn pride from the community, emphasizing that his administration would prioritize a people-centered approach, with security stakeholders, the media, and ordinary citizens actively involved.

With over two decades of experience in the service, Adetuberu pledged to leverage his expertise to address security challenges in the state effectively.

He encouraged the media to play a constructive role in enhancing effective policing by offering constructive criticism and responsible reportage.

In response, Comrade Anthony Bassey, Chairman of the Correspondentsโ€™ Chapel of the NUJ, conveyed the Chapel’s commitment to fostering a collaborative synergy with the DSS, aimed at promoting accurate and ethical reportage without any divisive or inflammatory elements. He assured that journalists within the Chapel are trained professionals dedicated to nation-building through responsible journalism.
