Deadly explosions and inferno hit security building in Russia

Just like most states of the federation, Ibomites will go to the polls on March 18 2023 to elect a governor for the next dispensation to pilot the affairs of state for the next four years atleast and may be eight. Elections are seen as a referendum on a political party or a government in power, and the forthcoming gubernatorial election will not be any different.

It will avail the good people of Akwa Ibom and opportunity to tell the Peoples Democratic Party, Governor Udom Emmanuel and Pastor Umo Eno if the party had served them well in the last eight years, if Governor Udom Emmanuel had delivered on his many campaign promises in the last eight years, if his policies and projects have impacted on their lives positively, and if it is successful enough to trust Pastor Umo Eno, the PDP’s flagbearer to sustain the success story and improve on it.

In almost 8 years of Udom Emmanuel of the PDP at the helm of affairs of Akwa Ibom State, the success story includes increased effort towards the Ibom Deep Sea port project, which on completion it is believed will save Nigeria $70 million lost to illegal fishing, create huge economic and social benefits which includes world trade. It is also believed on completion will promote an increase in seaborne trade, serve as a hub for the South -South and trans-shipment trade with West and Central Africa sub-region, with a very positive employment impact. It will also play an important role in the decongestion of Lagos Port. It will contribute in big measure to the economic growth of Akwa Ibom and the nation as a whole. This because, any port infrastructure investment project fosters economic development.

Akwa Ibom govt offers five-day tax break to transport operators

Many industries were established in the state and became partners in progress as they were quick to identify Akwa Ibom as the safest place to invest. The Jubilee Syringe Manufacturing and Kings Flour Mills at Mkpok are some of such industries.

We also saw Ibom Air come into existence and made the state accessible with an ongoing expansion of its fleet and routes, making the state just a flight away from major cities of the country. The enormous contributions to the resources and the economic development of the State are monumental. The State no longer exist as an obscure or abstract in the minds of many, it is now seen as a land filled with opportunities.

Pastor Umo Eno has promised Ibomites a sustenance of the success of the last eight years, and this he has encapsulate as “ARISE” agenda.

The ARISE agenda is an acronym where “A” is Agricultural revolution, Tourism and Environmental Management, “R” is Rural Development, Women and Youth Empowerment, “I” is Infrastructural Maintenance and Advancement, “S” is Security Management, Quality Education and Health Sector Management, and “E” stands for Economic, Industrial and Social Advancement.  He has promised to start from where Udom Emmanuel stops and I say to myself, what else can the people of Akwa Ibom do?

What reinforced Pastor Umo Eno as a continuation of a success story is because he has been of tremendous service to Akwa Ibom as he has served as the Chairman of the Akwa Ibom Hotels and Tourism Board between 2004 and 2007, served as the executive director of Agricultural Investments, a directorate in the Akwa Ibom State Investment Corporation (AKICORP), while he is the current Commissioner for Land and Water Resources.

Police warns against violence, thuggery in Akwa Ibom during governorship elections

He is an astute entrepreneur with many years of experience, and widely acknowledged as the largest private employer of labour in Akwa Ibom. His resume is impressive and he is seen as the man needed to take Akwa Ibom State to a new height of glory with his promises as he possesses great attributes of a compassionate leader.

So this brings me to the question; What choice do they have?

What option will the go for if not to reinforce success when failure can be undeservingly rewarded.

And this can only be done through massively voting for Pastor Umo Eno of the Peoples’ Democratic Party as governor come March 18 2023. God bless Ibomites.

LG Chairman Commends Governor Eno’s Economic Diversification with New IbomAir Aircraft

Hon. Uko Umoh, the Chairman of Etinan Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State, has praised Governor Umo Eno’s economic diversification efforts, particularly following the recent acquisition of two Bombardier CRJ 900 aircraft to expand the IbomAir fleet.

During a weekend address, Umoh highlighted the importance of generating revenue from diverse sources rather than relying solely on allocations from the federation account, especially in challenging economic times. He stated, “IbomAir has become the darling of the Nigerian sky and is enjoying wide patronage by Nigerians. With these new additions to the fleet, IbomAir is taking over the entire Nigerian air space.”

Umoh emphasized that while many states grapple with debt, Akwa Ibom is making strategic investments for future growth, referencing the recent laying of the foundation for the Ibom Towers in Lagos as a significant real estate investment. “We are greatly inspired by the quality leadership at the state level, and we have no other option than to replicate the same in Etinan during our tenure. We are committed and passionate about driving investment traffic to Etinan Local Government as we push for a change of narrative,” he affirmed.

Governor Eno previously explained that the addition of the two CRJ 900 next-generation aircraft reflects the administration’s ongoing support for IbomAir and aligns with the ARISE Agenda’s focus on strategic investments that stimulate economic growth and enhance the state’s standing among its peers.

Mr. Mfon Udom, CEO of IbomAir, noted that with the new aircraft, the airline’s fleet now totals nine, including two Airbus A220-300s and seven CRJ 900s. He assured that the airline would continue to grow its fleet, with nine more Airbus A220-300s set to be delivered in the next three years. Udom confirmed that the two newly acquired CRJ 900s were financed through a shareholder loan, enhancing IbomAir’s capacity to provide reliable service and connectivity for travelers.

PDP Ward Officers in Akwa Ibom Protest Marginalization by Former Leaders

Published

By

Ward officers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State have expressed strong discontent over what they term gross marginalization and oppression by a forum of PDP ward leaders, which they label as unconstitutional.

A PDP ward chairman from Uyo Federal Constituency reported that this group, primarily composed of former commissioners, ex-House of Assembly members, and previous political office seekers, has usurped the constitutional functions of current ward officers, rendering them ineffective and irrelevant in the eyes of party members.

Insiders from the government house indicated that the problematic behavior of many ward leaders has contributed to delays in appointing supervisors, despite local government inaugurations having already taken place.

Sources claim that numerous ward leaders have nominated their family members—children, spouses, and close relatives—for these positions, prompting the governor to annul the initial supervisors list in favor of a new one.

While a minority of ward leaders have maintained a commitment to integrity and fairness in the selection process for local government supervisors, the majority have been criticized for prioritizing personal connections over public interest.

One ward officer revealed that during the local government election campaigns, ward leaders received greater prominence than the elected ward officers of the PDP. Although acknowledging the forum’s role in the party’s recent electoral successes, he insisted that the PDP constitution does not formally recognize such a body.

The ward officers have issued a warning, stating their intention to defect to another political party if the power and constitutional rights of the ward leadership are not reinstated.
