Most Rev Camillus Umoh, the Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Ikot Ekpene in Akwa Ibom State, has called upon the 10th Senate to diligently work for the welfare of Nigerians and address the past shortcomings.
Delivering a sermon during a thanksgiving service held at St Anne Cathedral Ifuho, Ikot Ekpene Council, in honor of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the bishop emphasized the importance of collaboration and unity among lawmakers in the National Assembly to enact laws that benefit the Nigerian people.
Addressing Senator Akpabio directly, Bishop Umoh stated, “Let it be known that from Ikot Ekpene Diocese emerged a senator and the president of the Senate, and may the kindness and generosity of this place also shape your character. Unify this country through inclusive legislation that does not discriminate or favor select groups.”
The bishop further encouraged Akpabio to leave a lasting legacy, saying, “May it be said that during your tenure, people will remark that such issues would not have occurred if Akpabio were present. Work towards eliminating factors that threaten the unity of our nation. Use your expertise to bring about the uncommon transformation of Nigeria. This is your humble Nazareth, and let it be known that great things can emerge from here.”
Former Governor of Ebonyi State, Senator Dave Umahi, also expressed gratitude to President Ahmed Tinubu for his support in endorsing Akpabio as the President of the 10th Senate. The thanksgiving service concluded with Senate President Akpabio leading the church’s mass choir in performing the uplifting Halelujah Chorus.
