In a significant breakthrough, operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command’s Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) unit have successfully neutralized Sunday Wisdom, a notorious armed robber and serial killer, while attempting to evade arrest.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Odiko Macdon, on Thursday, Wisdom had been on the wanted list for his involvement in robbing and brutally killing innocent individuals in various areas, including Ikot Ambang, Ikot Efun, Ikot Inuan, Itak, Ikot Osukpong, and Okobo Ibiono, all situated in Ibiono Local Government Area of the State. He was known to be a member of a dreaded armed robbery gang led by the late Malachi Uwem Friday.
During the operation to apprehend Wisdom, he first opened fire at the police operatives, attempting to avoid capture. However, the SWAT team displayed remarkable bravery and skill, overpowering the criminal.
The statement highlighted Wisdom’s alarming criminal record, which included the murder of approximately thirteen people and injuring twenty-two others. He had terrorized innocent Akwa Ibomites, particularly residents of the mentioned areas, leaving a trail of violence and fear.
Among his recent crimes, on July 22, Wisdom murdered Nsikan Vincent Udo of Ikot Inua village at Ikot Efun junction and made off with the victim’s new Q-link motorcycle. On July 8, he shot and wounded Jesse Johnson and two others at a POS Shop in Ikot Ambang junction. Earlier, on July 5, he shot and maimed Augustina Dominic at her Supermarket. Wisdom had also targeted several POS operators, filling stations, supermarket owners, and market traders, robbing them of substantial sums of money, creating an atmosphere of terror until his demise.
The Police Command recovered various exhibits from Wisdom, including a locally reconstructed pump-action firearm resembling an AK-47, cartridges, a Q-link motorcycle, assorted charms, and a mask, among other items.
Expressing his gratitude, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Olatoye Durosinmi, acknowledged the valuable intelligence provided by the people of Akwa Ibom and commended the bravery of the SWAT and F-Division Ikot Ambang officers for their significant achievements. He also issued a stern warning to criminal elements in the State, urging them to leave immediately or face the consequences.
The elimination of Sunday Wisdom represents a major victory for law enforcement and serves as a clear message to potential criminals that the Akwa Ibom State Police Command remains committed to maintaining peace and security for its citizens.
