Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Committee Urges Residents to Protect Government Facilities

Members of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Committee on Works and Transport have encouraged residents of Uruan Akpan Andem community to safeguard government facilities against vandalism.

The chairman of the committee, Otobong Bob, made this appeal during an on-the-spot assessment of the progress of a market project in the area.

Bob, who also represents Nsit Ubium State constituency, emphasized the importance of maintaining and protecting government facilities. He urged users of the facility to adopt a proper maintenance culture and take measures to prevent vandalism.

The inspection visit was part of the committee’s oversight functions, and Bob assured the community that their request for the completion of other parts of Johnson Street would be recommended to the Governor.

The contractor, Engr. Uwem Okoko, provided details about the demanding nature of the project, which included drainage work, asphalt laying, partial reconstruction of Johnson Street, and the installation of a water project with a 20,000-liter tank. He emphasized that the water provided was safe for drinking.

Rt. Hon. Kufre Abasi Edidem, the Deputy Speaker and member representing Itu State Constituency, also stressed the importance of keeping the drainages clear and unblocked, urging the Chairman of the Market Union to take the necessary steps to prevent blockages.
