Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has announced the release of N1 billion to supplement the federal government’s palliative package. The governor revealed that the distribution of these palliatives to the state’s residents would commence on September 4, 2023.

During a conversation with journalists in Uyo, Governor Eno also disclosed that an additional N2 billion had been approved for the payment of gratuities to retired teachers within the state and local government service. He reiterated his commitment to the “One Project Per Local Government Area Initiative.”

The governor emphasized that these measures were aimed at alleviating the hardships faced by the people due to the removal of the fuel subsidy. With the state government’s contribution and the 3,000 bags of rice and N2 billion received from the federal government, over 2,270 villages in the state were expected to receive at least 50 bags of rice each.

Governor Eno added, “We will extend assistance to various communities and groups, including the Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, Niger Delta communities, security services, and others who may not have direct access to the villages but are integral to Akwa Ibom State.”

He also stressed that the state government had taken note of individuals attempting to incite unrest and disrupt the peace in the state through the manipulation of youth. Governor Eno cautioned the youth against falling victim to such schemes and called for vigilance to maintain the peace and order that Akwa Ibom State has enjoyed.
