Prof. Eno Ibanga, the Commissioner for Works and Fire Service in Akwa Ibom State, has chastised road contractors in the state, claiming that their achievements so far do not represent the amount of money given to them.

He told contractors at a conference in Uyo yesterday that they should finish their projects since the government has provided them with sufficient funding.

He did note, however, that while some contractors had demonstrated attention, passion, innovation, and skill in managing road projects, others had fallen short.

“I have visited a number of project sites since the last release of cash, when we disbursed over 90% to contractors across the state, and the majority of you have done well while others of you are not trying at all,” he remarked.

“I realize some of you still have a lot of money left over, but I doubt there is a single contractor in this state who hasn’t been well mobilized as of today; if there is, it shows you’re having problems with your IPC.”

The commissioner cautioned the contractors that substandard work would not be acceptable if they did not complete their tasks according to the design and specifications.

Senator Ibok Essien, the Managing Director of Gracib Investment Ltd, spoke on behalf of the contractors, thanking Governor Udom Emmanuel for funding projects across the state.

Contractors would redouble their efforts at project locations, he said, as authorized by the government.
