The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has uncovered a firearms manufacturing factory operated by a father and his sons, where various weapons were fabricated and sold.
During a briefing at the Command Headquarters in Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo, on Monday, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph O. Eribo, revealed the discovery. He stated that the factory was located following credible intelligence, leading to a raid that resulted in the arrest of one suspect, while others, including the factory’s owner, fled.
Recovered items included seven newly made single-barrel guns, five double-barrel guns, a special steel double-trigger pistol, a broken single-barrel gun, a trigger-handle walking stick knife, and multiple iron pipes used for constructing gun barrels.
“Based on credible information received by the Command, operatives raided a gun-making factory where firearms of various types were fabricated and sold to criminals,” Eribo stated.
One suspect, David Nse Emmanuel, was arrested during the operation, while his father, Akpan Nse Emmanuel, and his brothers remain at large. Eribo assured the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
In another development, the police arrested a suspected child trafficker, Promise Boniface, who had abducted five children from a single mother.
The incident occurred on November 14, 2024, when the mother reported that an unknown man had taken her five children on a motorcycle. Following a distress call, police operatives swiftly rescued the children unharmed and reunited them with their mother. The motorcycle used in the crime was also recovered.
CP Eribo commended the public for providing timely information and reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring safety and security across the state.
