Akwa Ibom Police Kill Three Kidnappers, Rescue Prominent Lawyer and Niece

Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have shot dead three suspected kidnappers and rescued Barr.

Emmanuel Ubengama, a prominent lawyer and director at the Ministry of Justice in Abak Local Government Area, along with his niece.

Barr. Ubengama and his niece were abducted on Wednesday evening along the Abak-Ikot Abasi road while returning from school visits. Acting on a report from the victims’ family, the Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, deployed tactical operatives to locate the suspects and secure their release.

The rescue mission led police operatives to the kidnappersโ€™ hideout in Ikot Ukpong village, Afahaobong, Abak LGA. A gunfight ensued, resulting in the deaths of three suspects while others fled the scene.

During the operation, the victims were discovered tied inside a purpose-built soakaway facility and were promptly rescued unharmed.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Timfon John, stated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects. She emphasized the policeโ€™s commitment to ensuring safety across Akwa Ibom, particularly as the festive season approaches.

โ€œThe Command has warned criminal elements that nowhere in Akwa Ibom is safe for them,โ€ she said, appealing to the public for collaboration and intelligence sharing to aid in combating crime.
