Akwa Ibom Police Command Nabs Fake ASP

A man named Vincent Sampson Enuneku from the Delta State local government of Ndokwa has been detained by members of the Akwa Ibom State Police command for impersonation and for having a big amount of what is thought to be Indian hemp.

In a statement made available to newsmen yesterday in Uyo, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Odiko MacDon, made the following disclosure: “The suspect was arrested on June 28, 2022 in Uyo while attempting to use his fake Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Identity card to prevent the arrest of a wanted criminal.”

According to MacDon, the suspect uses the false ID card to easily pass through security checkpoints while bringing Indian hemp and other forbidden goods into the State.

His words: “The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State, CP Olatoye Durosinmi has decorated thirty-seven (37) Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) to the next rank of Superintendents of Police (SPs).The CP while decorating the Senior Officers charged them to always discharge their duties professionally in consonance with extant laws.

“He urged them to be civil to Members of the public and eschew every form of corruption in line with the directives of the IGP while having greater respect for the fundamental human rights of the people.

‘Among those honored were the Officer in Charge of Training, SP Joy Mezu, and the Personal Assistant (PA) to the Commissioner of Police, SP Maximus Oloto. On the other hand, the CP has cautioned those who pose as police officers or representatives of other agencies to stop immediately or face legal action from the Police.

” The CP gave the warning after personnel of Anti-cultism Squad of the Command arrested one Vincent Sampson Enuneku, (43) from Ndokwa Local Government Area of Delta State for impersonation and being in possession of large substance, suspected to be Indian hemp.

“The suspect was arrested on the 28th of June, 2022 in Uyo while attempting to use his fake Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) ID card to prevent the arrest of a wanted criminal.

“Investigation revealed that the suspect uses the ID card to pass through check points freely while transporting Indian hemp and other prohibited items to Akwa Ibom State.

” He is also good at using the ID card to extort and harass innocent Members of the Public, thereby bringing the image of the Force to disrepute. Exhibits recovered from the suspect include fake Police ID Card and a large quantity of Indian hemp”

Gunmen Abduct Journalists Traveling to Uyo for Super Eagles Match

Gunmen have abducted journalists traveling from Lagos to Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, for the Super Eagles match against Libya.

The attack occurred on Wednesday along Isseke-Orlu Road in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The attackers stopped the journalists’ bus and forced them into a nearby bush. The exact number of abducted journalists is unclear, but sources estimate at least 10 were taken.

The Anambra State police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the attack and stated that a joint security team is actively searching for the victims and perpetrators.

In an update, Mr. Ikenga announced that the security team has rescued six of the abducted journalists. However, the search for the remaining crew member continues.

Anambra State has experienced a significant deterioration in security, with frequent attacks targeting security agencies, government officials, and facilities. The Nigerian government has blamed the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) for these attacks, but the group has denied any involvement.

EFCC Busts Yet Another 13 Internet Fraudsters in Akwa Ibom

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has successfully apprehended 13 suspected internet fraudsters in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

In a sting operation conducted on Monday, October 7, 2024, EFCC operatives from the Uyo Zonal Directorate swooped in on the suspects in the Nwaniba area. The operation was based on credible intelligence regarding their fraudulent activities online.

The suspects were found in possession of a variety of luxury vehicles and electronic devices, including four cars (Lexus 350, Toyota Camry V6, and Toyota Corolla), six laptops, and 20 smartphones.

Following the arrests, the EFCC announced that the suspects would be charged in court upon the completion of investigations.

EFCC Arrests 28 Suspected Internet Fraudsters in Akwa Ibom and Edo States

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended 28 individuals suspected of involvement in internet fraud in Akwa Ibom and Edo states.

The EFCC spokesman, Dele Oyewale, disclosed the arrests in a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja.

According to Oyewale, the arrests took place on October 7 during a coordinated sting operation based on credible intelligence regarding the suspects’ fraudulent activities. In Akwa Ibom, 13 suspects were arrested in the Nwaniba area of Uyo, while 15 suspects were taken into custody in Benin City, Edo State.

Items seized from the suspects in Akwa Ibom included two Lexus 350 saloon cars, a Toyota Camry V6, a Toyota Corolla, six laptops, and 20 smartphones. In Benin, four luxury vehicles, laptops, and phones were recovered from the suspects.

The EFCC confirmed that the suspects will be charged to court following the conclusion of investigations.
