The Akwa Ibom State Police command has clarified the ongoing raids on suspected criminals’ hideouts within Uyo metropolis and adjacent communities, dispelling rumors of mass arrests.
According to Odiko Macdon, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the command, the raids are targeted specifically at suspected black spots, aiming to deter criminal activities and maintain security in the area.
Macdon emphasized that raiding is a proactive security measure aimed at disrupting criminal operations before they escalate, rather than waiting for criminal elements to strike. He assured that the raids are conducted with the intention of inconveniencing only the criminals, while innocent residents are allowed to go free after screening.
Furthermore, Macdon stressed that raiding should not be exploited as an opportunity for extortion, and urged anyone who experiences such misconduct to report immediately to the Command Complaint Response Unit established by the Commissioner of Police for prompt action.
Highlighting the commitment of the Commissioner of Police to ensuring the safety of residents with professionalism as a guiding principle, Macdon indicated that more raids should be expected in the future. He solicited understanding and cooperation from the public in support of these efforts.
