Akwa Ibom and Oyo States have received recognition and commendation for being the most digitally compliant states in Nigeria.
This acknowledgment was part of the Digital Nigeria Conference 2023, hosted by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) at the International Conference Center in Abuja.
The event was attended by prominent figures in the tech industry, including the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Communication, Senator Aliyu Bilbis.
Representatives from the Akwa Ibom State Government, including key figures from the media and information technology departments, were in attendance. They presented the state’s achievements in the digital realm, leading to the “Most Digitally Compliant State Award.” The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, praised the state’s Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for his outstanding contributions to the IT industry.
In response, Engr Solomon Eyo, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Website and Multimedia, expressed gratitude for the award and dedicated it to Governor Umo Eno. He highlighted the governor’s vision, which included the establishment of the ICT Directorate, improved internet connectivity, the full automation of civil services, and modern digital platforms for citizen engagement. These advancements have allowed the governor to sign memos from anywhere, contributing to the remarkable progress achieved within his first 60 days in office.
Dr. Kashifu Inuwa, the Director General of NITDA, reiterated the agency’s commitment to implementing the National Digital Economy Policy for Digital Nigeria, emphasizing NITDA’s critical role in the planning, research, development, standardization, and regulation of information technology practices in Nigeria. The 2023 awards underscored not only Akwa Ibom’s accomplishments but also the nation’s commitment to a digitally transformed future.
