Professor Augustine Umoh, the Commissioner for Health in Akwa Ibom State, has delivered a firm warning to medical professionals in the state, cautioning them against engaging in unethical practices or facing the consequences of disciplinary actions.

Umoh issued this warning during a press briefing in Uyo on Wednesday, following his comprehensive inspection of government-owned health facilities spread across the state.

He emphasized that the state government would not tolerate any form of negligence, incompetence, absenteeism, or neglect of duty within healthcare facilities.

Furthermore, Umoh stressed the importance of utilizing the high-quality medical equipment procured by the government, emphasizing that the underutilization of such resources would not be tolerated.

The commissioner urged for an immediate activation and optimal use of all medical equipment within the hospitals to enhance the quality of healthcare services.

Umoh expressed his belief that a significant number of patients would choose government hospitals if the management and staff demonstrated the right attitude and dedication to their roles. He underlined the importance of efficiently harnessing available resources to ensure patient satisfaction.

He articulated the ministry’s overarching mission, which is centered on providing effective, efficient, high-quality, and patient-centric healthcare services.

Umoh also voiced his concern about the subpar hygiene conditions observed in some health facilities. In response, he directed the respective heads of these facilities to ensure that cleanliness and orderliness are maintained at all times.

Among the facilities visited by Commissioner Umoh were the General Hospitals in Awa, Ikot Ekpene, Eket, and Ibiaku Ntok Okpo. This visit underscores the government’s commitment to upholding healthcare standards and ensuring the well-being of the community.
