Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has extended his heartfelt congratulations to John Obot, who recently broke the Guinness World Record for the longest individual hours spent reading, surpassing the previous record of 124 hours by reading for an astonishing 153 hours.
In a congratulatory message delivered on his behalf by his Chief Press Secretary, Ekerete Udoh, Governor Eno expressed his admiration for Mr. Obot’s achievement. He praised Obot’s discipline, determination, focus, and the Akwa Ibom spirit of resilience, grit, and passion for excellence.
Governor Eno emphasized that John Obot’s success has reignited the reading culture and encouraged others to excel in their respective fields. He looks forward to celebrating Obot and other heroes and heroines during the state’s forthcoming 36th-anniversary celebrations.
John Obot, a professional teacher, embarked on his record-breaking reading marathon on September 12, 2023, at Watbridge Hotel in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State. He read from a wide range of books, including Nigerian literature, and received support and solidarity from various personalities and dignitaries throughout the event.
Obot’s remarkable feat, which culminated in a new world record of 153 hours, serves as an inspiration for the promotion of reading culture and the importance of literature in society. His dedication to this task is a testament to his passion for encouraging others to read and for authors to continue their craft.
John Obot is the son of the late journalist John Obot, who worked with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN). His achievement has brought pride to Akwa Ibom State and serves as a shining example of determination and excellence.
