The Akwa Ibom State Government has reaffirmed the ban on both private and commercial motorcycles within the Uyo metropolis, the state capital.

The ban was originally implemented in 2011 to curb rising criminal activities like armed robbery and kidnapping in the city.

Despite the previous ban, the government has observed a resurgence of private and commercial motorcycles operating outside designated areas within Uyo. These areas include Ikot Ekpene Road, Abak Road, Aka Road, Oron Road, and Nwaniba Road.

The government has instructed security agencies to enforce the ban strictly from October 28th. Motorcycles found operating in Uyo city from that date will be confiscated and immediately destroyed, without the option of a fine. Registered dispatch riders are exempt from the ban.
