Two tricycle thieves were sentenced to 28 years in prison by the Akwa Ibom State High Court in Okoita, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area.
Nsikan Friday Tom, 28, and Augustine Gregory, 27, were convicted for robbing a passenger at Okokon Etuk Street in Uyo when they were attempting to board a tricycle.
Nsikan Friday Tom, also known as “Nokia,” a native of Akpa-utong in the Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, and Augustine Gregory, a resident of Aka Offot in Uyo, allegedly robbed their victim on August 7, 2016, taking both his Gionee M5 phone and Lenovo laptop.

The sentences would run concurrently, according to the presiding court, Justice Okon Okon, who sentenced the offenders to 21 years for robbery and seven years for conspiracy.
Out of the three counts of conspiracy, armed robbery, and participation in a secret cult in Akwa Ibom, the court found them guilty on two of them.
The court ruled that even if the prosecution was unable to show that a pistol was used in the robbery, there was still more than enough proof that the victims’ laptop and phone were taken by the defendants.
However, Justice Okon released and exonerated the defendants on the charge of participation in a secret cult, declaring that “nowhere in the world is there a law that incriminates or punishes the making of confessional comments to the Police.”
