The leader of the Forum of Akwa Ibo 2023 APC National Assembly Aspirants, Mr. Eseme Eyibo, has expressed his appreciation for recent landmark appointments and leadership in Nigeria.
During an interactive session with journalists at the FCT Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Utako, Abuja, Eyibo commended the Bola Tinubu-led regime, the legislature, and Nigerians in general, stating that Akwa Ibom state has never experienced such favorable developments.
Eyibo highlighted several reasons for their gratitude:
1. Support for Senate President Godswill Akpabio: He praised the support from all stakeholders that led to the emergence of Godswill Akpabio as Senate President, describing the election as “the most transparent and competitive.”
2. Appointment of Minister of State for Petroleum (Gas): President Tinubu recently appointed Ekperipe Ekpo as Minister of State, Petroleum Resources (Gas) from Akwa Ibom, which was seen as a significant achievement.
3. Appointment of an Akwa Ibom Indigene as Deputy Governor of CBN: An indigene of Akwa Ibom was named as one of the Deputy Governors of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) when the organization was reorganized.
4. Representation in the FCT Cabinet: An individual from Akwa Ibom was also named in the reconstituted cabinet in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
5. Appointment of a Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC): Eyibo commended the recent appointment of a Resident Electoral Commissioner from Akwa Ibom, dismissing criticisms against the appointee. He described the appointee as a bureaucrat and technocrat who was well-deserving of the role.
Regarding concerns that the Senate is turning into a “rubber stamp,” Eyibo refuted such insinuations, reminding critics that when President Tinubu submitted a list of 40 ministerial nominees for confirmation, three of them were initially not approved. This, he argued, demonstrates the Senate’s commitment to scrutinizing nominees and fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities.
