Stakeholders under the banner of Akwa Ibom Professionals have strongly cautioned Senate President Godswill Akpabio against his alleged plot to forcefully take over Akwa Ibom state in 2027, terming it a futile and divisive venture.

The group, expressing disapproval of Akpabio’s recent statements and attacks on former Governor Obong Victor Attah, has demanded an unreserved apology.

The National Coordinator of the group, Engr. Ufot Akan Umoren, rebuked Akpabio for disparaging Attah and casting aspersions on the state’s leaders, deeming it an “unpardonable assault on the sensibility of the generality of the people of Akwa Ibom State.” The group dismissed Akpabio’s boast of taking over in 2027 as an empty threat, recalling that similar assertions in 2019 amounted to nothing.

Accusing Akpabio of deploying hate speech and false claims to sow discord among communities, the group emphasized his actions as detrimental to the state’s stability and the current administration’s progress under Governor Umo Eno. The statement underscored that Akpabio’s divisive tactics and unfounded claims about the state’s development are unacceptable.

The group emphasized the significant contributions of former Governor Attah to the state’s modernization, challenging Akpabio to point to achievements during his tenure as Senate Minority Leader, Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, and Senate President. They urged Akpabio to tender an apology to Attah and other leaders, emphasizing that further attempts to sow ethnic discord would be vehemently resisted.

In conclusion, the statement advised Akpabio to concentrate on his duties as Senate President and respect the will of the people, cautioning against further disruptive actions in Akwa Ibom State.
