Iboro Otu, the African Action Congress’s (AAC) candidate for governor of Akwa Ibom State, has been expelled.
It alleged that he engaged in anti-party and insubordinate behavior.
At a press conference in Uyo, state chairman Mr. Utip Etiebiet stated that Otu had flagrantly violated the party’s constitution.
The candidate was accused of acting insubordinately toward the party’s local chapter in his ward, the state chapter, and the Ini Local Government Area Chapter.
The party claimed that Otu had assembled a group of governorship contenders and used them to file many petitions against the AAC’s national and state working committees.
Additionally, although without any legal support, he was charged with trying to usurp the State Working Committee’s authority.

In a letter to the AAC National Chairman dated December 15, 2022 that was made accessible to reporters, Mr. Otu demanded that he be allowed complete discretion in selecting the state chairman, youth leader, publicity secretary, women leader, and financial secretary.
In addition, he wanted the right to name the state’s central collation officer and all poll workers.
These, according to the party, are against the party’s founding principles.
Otu claimed he was unaware of his ejection from the group, which was run by former governor Obong Victor Attah and included Otu in a governorship debate.
He denied knowledge of his dismissal from the party when speaking with media following the event, saying it was not communicated to him.
