Akwa-Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has unveiled plans to establish a Bulk Purchase Agency aimed at curbing the rising cost of food and ensuring accessibility for the state’s residents.
Governor Eno revealed this initiative during the Nigeria Unity Conference 2024 themed “That We May be One,” hosted by the 10th Episcopal District, Christian Methodist Episcopal Church at Ibom Hall, Uyo.
He announced that a bill to formalize the establishment of the Bulk Purchase Agency will be presented to the House of Assembly. This agency will have the authority to regulate food prices, collaborate with market associations, and support local producers to enhance productivity.
“Our goal is to intervene in the soaring prices of staple foods by establishing the Akwa Ibom Bulk Purchase Agency. This agency will facilitate bulk procurement of staple foods and work closely with market stakeholders to stabilize prices. Additionally, we aim to empower local producers to increase their output,” Governor Eno explained.
Furthermore, Governor Eno disclosed plans to initiate the construction of strategic roads across the three Senatorial Districts within the next two weeks. He also pledged to enhance security measures by introducing a comprehensive security architecture and deploying new patrol vehicles to ensure the safety of citizens day and night.
In his remarks, Bishop Dr. Ricky D. Helton, the Bishop and Prelate of the 10th Episcopal District, expressed gratitude to Governor Eno for gracing the event. He commended the governor for his unwavering support for the church, highlighting his role as a pastor and his steadfast commitment to its growth and development.
