No fewer than 149 village chiefs have been appointed by Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel, and they have been given the responsibility of collaborating with Pastor Umo Eno’s new administration to uphold the current state of peace and harmony in their areas.
At the Akwa Ibom State Traditional Rulers Council Chambers in Uyo, the commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Mr. Frank Archibong, who filled in for the governor, presented the certificates of recognition to the corresponding paramount rulers for distribution to the 149 beneficiaries in their domains.
When handing out the certificates, the commissioner thanked the village leaders for their patience and acknowledged Governor Emmanuel’s promise while congratulating them on their recognition.
He thanked the royal fathers for keeping faith with the outgoing administration, saying the current administration placed high premium on the welfare of royal fathers in the state for sustainable peace and development.
The chairman, Akwa Ibom Traditional Rulers Council, Ntenyin Solomon Etuk, applauded Governor Emmanuel for keeping his promise on the issuance of certificates of recognition to the village heads.
He said the traditional institution in the state had enjoyed cordial relationship with Governor Emmanuelโs government, noting that this had trickled down to the wellbeing of the royal fathers.
He recounted that emoluments, new utility vehicles, health allowances and other incentives were always provided to make the royal fathers comfortable.
The Nsit-Ubium paramount ruler announced that royal fathers would be embarking on a road tour to assess projects embarked upon by the current administration in the last eight years.
